Summary:
The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Clinical Coordinator fulfills the role of respiratory care professionals in both direct and indirect patient care settings. Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Clinical Coordinator duties include evaluating patients' respiratory health status, offering guidance to patients, families, and healthcare colleagues, and utilizing the respiratory care process for medication administration, diagnostic tests, and equipment instruction, as necessary. This position also involves delivering personalized education to patients and their families via telephone encounter, virtual platform, and in clinical settings. RCP clinical coordinator collaborates with physicians and nurses to develop and implement tailored care plans and strategies for patients with specific respiratory conditions.

Responsibilities:
* Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating patient care. Uses clinical judgment based on respiratory skills acquired through formal and informal experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines to globally assess the patient's situation and through critical thinking and clinical decision making, develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient, with the aim of promoting comfort.
* Delivers care with a team-orientation, an emphasis on good customer relations, sound clinical judgement and appropriate decision-making abilities that take into consideration evidence-based practice
* Provides direct patient care including but not limited to: mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene,
* suctioning, oxygen therapy, inhaled gases, medication.
* Accountable that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations.
* Documents patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly.
* Oversees care delivered by patient care team; coordinates plan of care
* Provides education and facilitates learning for patients, families, and patient care team in a way that demonstrates a sensitivity to recognize, appreciate, and incorporate differences related to diversity
* • Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team • Preceptor for novice therapists
* Collaborates with physicians, families and other healthcare professionals to assist in developing and implementing an appropriate plan of care in a way that promotes/encourages each person's contributions towards achieving the best patient outcomes.
* Advocates for the patient, represents the concerns of the patient/family and identifies and assists in resolving ethical and clinical concerns
* Documents all patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner, ensuring completeness and accuracy
* Adhere to all infection prevention initiatives (i.e., hand hygiene, proper disposal of waste, etc.) Deliver competent and skilled care to patients and families according to their identified needs.
* Continuously inquires about the condition of the patient through the ongoing process of questioning and evaluating the situation and implements treatment changes, if necessary, through collaboration with the health care team, inclusive of the patient and family.
* Maintains a body of knowledge and tools that allow the RCP Clinical Coordinator to manage whatever environmental and system resources exist for the patient/family, within or across healthcare and non-healthcare systems.
* Participates in the development and implementation of professional and educational initiatives
* Participates in continuing educational opportunities at Children's Health
* Supports professional organization of Respiratory Care
* Shares pertinent information gained from professional seminars, conferences, books, or journals.

WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 3 years job related experience Req
* Ability to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from 0-22 years. Effective organizational skills and attention to detail. Req

EDUCATION
* Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Req
* Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Pref

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* RRT recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and active Texas license Req
* Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) (Asthma Management Department Only) 1 Year Req
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Req
* PACES certification: new employees must obtain PACES certification within 6 months of hire and existing employees must obtain PACES certification upon expiration of their PEARS certification. Req
