Crossing Guard

The City of Wylie Police Department is seeking a part time Crossing Guard to assist the students of Wylie ISD. The selected candidate will be responsible for safeguarding and regulating pedestrian traffic crossing streets at an assigned location in order to ensure the safety of children walking to and from school. Assists people needing directions. Supervision is provided by the Crossing Guard Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

• Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections.
• Watches for gaps in traffic and walks children across the roadway or intersection while holding a stop sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.
• Follows oral and written instructions.
• Stops traffic as needed to allow children to cross streets.
• Wears safety equipment at all times while working.
• Controls vehicle and school bus traffic around the school zone.
• Signals to children when crossing streets is safe; observes children for safe and proper crossing.
• Changes locations as traffic demands necessitate, in order to remain in vicinity of greatest danger to children.
• Works to establish a positive relationship with children and parents.
• Attends training classes and/or meetings as requested.
• Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
• Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent. Some experience working with children preferred. City of Wylie Police Department Crossing Guard Orientation prior to manning an assigned crossing guard post.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED Negligible: Exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; standing most of the time.
