About US 1 Shorthaul's Dispatcher Position:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Dispatcher supports daily transportation operations by coordinating driver assignments, monitoring load status, and assisting with scheduling activities. This role ensures timely communication between drivers, customers, and internal departments, and helps maintain service standards, safety, and compliance with company policies and transportation regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Dispatch & Scheduling
  • Assign loads and schedule drivers based on operational needs and delivery timelines
  • Assist with route planning and provide updates to drivers as needed
  • Communicate with customers to resolve issues and support delivery requirements
• Communication & Coordination
  • Maintain real-time communication with drivers throughout their shift
  • Coordinate with operations, customer service, and other company personnel to ensure smooth logistics flow
• Tracking & Reporting
  • Monitor shipment and driver status using dispatch or fleet management systems
  • Document changes, delays, and operational updates in company systems
• Documentation & Compliance
  • Ensure driver and load information is accurately recorded
  • Assist with monitoring hours-of-service (HOS) compliance and reporting irregularities to management
  • Review driver time entries and notify leadership of corrections or discrepancies
• Customer Support
  • Provide timely shipment updates and respond to customer inquiries
  • Help resolve issues related to delivery schedules or site conditions
• Issue Resolution
  • Identify and escalate potential delays, safety concerns, or other operational issues
  • Support management in implementing corrective actions and maintaining service expectations
• Other duties assigned by management

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Understanding of transportation and DOT compliance requirements
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office, and dispatch/transportation systems
• Excellent time-management and multitasking ability
• Strong problem-solving and customer service skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism during high-pressure or conflict situations

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in logistics, dispatching, trucking operations, or related field (required)
• High school diploma or equivalent (required); college or technical coursework in logistics preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. The ability to use a computer, tablet or smart phone for extended periods of time. Basic use of office equipment such as copier and fax machines. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines and operates in a fast-paced environment.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time hourly position, paid weekly. Hours worked over 40 hours in 1-week qualify for overtime (paid time and a half). This may be adjusted based on the needs of the company.

TRAVEL:
No travel is required for this position.
