The Associate Legal Counsel, Acute Care is primarily responsible for proactively handling a broad range of legal and compliance matters associated with the Acute Care business unit within the global medical division, working closely with business unit leadership, functional partners, and outside counsel on a variety of critical matters for the division.

Remote work flexibility within the United States.

What you will do

  • Bring a solutions‑oriented approach to solving complex issues, prioritizing multiple workstreams, and coordinating across functional groups to advance business objectives, resolve disputes and promote the growth of the division.
  • Provide analysis and timely counsel on legal, regulatory and compliance issues, including litigation, medical device regulations, intellectual property, employment, mergers and acquisitions, data privacy, competition law, AdvaMed, anti‑kickback, FCPA and other anti‑corruption laws.
  • Independently draft, review, negotiate and advise on a variety of agreements (sales, services, supply, distribution, consulting, clinical study, non‑disclosure, employment, and other commercial arrangements).
  • Analyze and provide clear and concise guidance on laws, rules, regulations, and Stryker policies as necessary, including with respect to the company's interactions with healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate with lawyers and other professionals from Stryker's Centers of Expertise to manage a variety of significant matters (strategic contracting, data privacy and security, intellectual property, litigation, employment, and regulatory matters).
  • Assist in managing litigation and pre‑litigation disputes with support from the in‑house legal team and outside counsel.
  • Review marketing, promotional and scientific activities and related materials for compliance with Stryker policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Seek to streamline and continuously improve legal and compliance services across the organization.
  • Partner closely with the compliance team to assist in managing a robust compliance program to address key risks.
  • Provide in‑house training and education to business stakeholders to enhance awareness and understanding of applicable laws, regulations and Stryker policies.

What you need

Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • License to practice Law in the US
  • 10+ years of work experience
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment and building relationships of trust with key stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, drafting, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrity and accountability

Preferred

  • Experience in Mergers and Acquisitions is highly desirable
  • Commercial Contract Experience
  • In‑house experience at a medical technology or pharmaceutical company
  • Healthcare industry knowledge or background
  • Change communications or change management experience
  • Strong judgment, communication skills, professional demeanor and business acumen
  • Experience providing legal advice in a highly regulated environment

$149,300 – $329,000 salary plus bonus eligible + benefits. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
