An auction house with offices around the world is looking for a Cataloguer for their jewelry department at their Dallas location. If you have a Graduate Gemologist diploma and a love for jewelry, then you meet the requirements for this position. Jewelry Cataloguers are responsible for examining, evaluating, and describing the jewelry being offered at auction. They are looking for someone who has proficiency in identifying gemstones and diamonds as well as an ability to test and identify metals. You will also need to be able to calculate the weights of mounted diamonds and gemstones. Someone with the above who enjoys research and has excellent writing skills would excel in this role. This is a fast-paced environment that requires someone who can prioritize and meet deadlines.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in previews, including setup and teardown.
  • Assist with inquiries
  • Appraisal skills are helpful but not required
  • Other duties may be assigned


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in identifying gemstones and diamonds using tools provided: microscope, polariscope, refractometer, etc.
  • Ability to test and adequately identify metal
  • Proficiency in calculating weights of mounted diamonds/gemstones
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel
  • Excellent writing and/or cataloging skills
  • Ability to follow assigned formats
  • Strong research skills in a high-production environment
  • Demonstrated prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma required
