Utility Laborer

The Utility Laborer will perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor on highway construction projects site.

American Lighting and Signalization (ALS) provides street lighting and traffic signalization construction, maintenance, and emergency response services in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our major customers include state departments of transportation (DOTs), investor-owned and municipal utilities, commercial retail land developments, and commercial road contractors.

Job Type : Full-Time +, Non-Exempt

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Operate hand and power tools of all types.

  • Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors.

  • Load and unload construction equipment

  • Dig trenches, backfill holes, or compact earth to prepare for construction.

  • Set up traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades.

  • Help to maintain a clean and safe job site.

  • Perform other related and non-related duties as assigned.

  • Regular and timely attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Experience operating basic construction equipment and tools.

  • Must be able to travel and work overtime, weekends, and nights as needed.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma preferred.

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Driver license required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Rare : (less than 10%): sitting, kneeling, crawling, color-vision, climbing stairs

  • Occasional : (up to 33%): stooping, squatting, climbing on/off a truck, reading, pushing, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Frequent : (up to 66%): walking, body-twisting, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, hearing-speech range, lifting, carrying, pulling, balancing, lifting up to 10 lbs.

  • Continuous : (up to 100%): standing, sense of touch, seeing distant, climbing, gripping, lifting 10-50 lbs., seeing, reaching, range of motion, depth perception
